The Bogovič family from Velika vas pri Krškem in Slovenia has been producing top-quality milk for years – almost three million litres a year. They use advanced technology and sustainable practices to ensure the well-being of their 300 cows. Despite the challenges, the whole family is committed to farming and is an example of good practice. Their recent investment in the Polycis 2800 tridem slurry tanker is a step towards more environmentally friendly and efficient farming.

A modern approach to milk production

The Bogovič family from Velika vas pri Krškem has been involved in dairy farming for generations. Vinko, Ana, their son Jakob and his wife Urška, and their daughters Ajda and Zala are a three-generation family who look after a herd of almost 300 Holstein cows. The family’s day-to-day life is devoted to caring for the animals, knowing that the welfare of the cows is crucial to the quality of the milk. Each year, the Bogovič family produces around 3 million litres of milk, most of which is sold to Ljubljanske mlekarne, Slovenia’s largest milk processor. The farm uses the latest technology, including robotic milking systems that allow precise measurement and optimization of production. The barns are airy and climate-controlled, and the cows have plenty of space and comfort. Smart collars monitor the cows’ movements, heart rate and other data, allowing continuous health monitoring. This modern approach to farming contributes to the wellbeing of the cows, resulting in high quality, high fat milk.

Younger generation

The Bogovič family is a great example of a family where the younger generation is enthusiastically carrying on the farming tradition, despite the challenges of modern times. They pay special attention to the welfare of their cows, providing them with a comfortable living environment, healthy feed and regular veterinary care. They know every cow by name and treat them like members of the family. Future successor, Jakob, takes care of all the work in the barn, while his father, Vinko, manages 170 hectares of farmland, where they grow grass, corn, cereals and protein components for feed. Despite modern equipment and advanced technology, there is a shortage of labour, so the whole family helps out. Farming is a challenging but fulfilling family business, and the Bogovič family is proud to run it, aware of the importance of agriculture for survival. With advanced practices and a sustainable approach, they help maintain the high quality of Slovenian milk, while caring for the welfare of their animals. This makes them an example of good practice both in Slovenia and abroad.

Sustainable investment for the future

Like all modern farmers, the Bogovič family faces many challenges in addition to milk production. Environmental concerns are becoming a central issue. Although the Bogovič family were happy with the existing tank, a family meeting led to a landmark decision: to update the fleet by purchasing a three-axle Polycis 2800 slurry tank from Farmtech. This type of investment not only makes work in the field easier, but also represents an important step towards more environmentally friendly and sustainable farming. The Polycis 2800 tank reduces emissions and environmental impact, while accelerating crop growth and contributing to higher yields. Its capacity of 28,000 litres of slurry per year means fewer journeys and reduced emissions. This has a positive impact on the environment and saves time and money. Modern technology also reduces the unpleasant smell of slurry, an important factor for both farmers and their neighbours.

Satisfaction with new equipment

After the first few rides with the Polycis 2800 tank, all the members of the Bogovič family are enthusiastic about its functionality. “We are very satisfied with the tank,” says Jakob Bogovič proudly. “The Farmtech team was very professional and helped us to get the machine up and running quickly. Driving the Polycis 2800 tank is a real treat. It’s stable and smooth, even on the most challenging terrain,” describes Jakob. “Tank operation is easy and comfortable from the tractor cabin, which means less physical effort and saves time.” At first, the Bogovič family were a little concerned that the tank might be too big for their tractor, but they were pleasantly surprised by its lightness and balance. “There is no need for excessive tractor power, which is important for efficient and cost-effective work,” adds Jakob. The Polycis 2800 tank is also equipped with a modern slurry distribution system which means a lot to the Bogovič family. They see this investment as a step forward in modern and sustainable farming. They are confident that the high-quality equipment will serve them well for many years to come.
