New power in the service of Lipizzaners

Lipizzaners are not just horses, but a symbol of elegance, strength and grace. At the Lipizzaner Stud Piber, this noble breed and its traditional values have been carefully preserved for centuries. Respect for history and commitment to sustainable development lead them to constantly search for innovative solutions for progress. This commitment is reflected in their recent investment in a new Durus 1600 dump tipper, which will further strengthen their transport capabilities and increase operational efficiency.

Lipizzaner paradise in Piber

The idyllic village of Piber is hidden in the embrace of the hills of western Austrian Styria. As you approach this picturesque town, you are greeted by the imposing Baroque Piber Castle, which reigns over lush meadows and green forests. In this magical setting, the Lipizzaner Stud Piber spreads over 550 hectares, providing home for 300 Lipizzaner horses and taking care of the preservation of this unique breed, which also ennobles the Spanish Riding School Vienna. Approximately 70 employees dedicate themselves heart and soul to the breeding and care of horses and creating unforgettable experiences for visitors every day. “At the Lipizzaner Stud Piber, we nurture the tradition of horse breeding and create first-class experiences for visitors,” says stud manager Erwin Movia. “The tourist offer includes guided tours, visits to the museum and smithy, riding during public training, carriage rides and many other activities.”

A new era of cross-border cooperation

In recent years, a shared passion for the Lipizzaner has forged strong ties between the Austrian Lipizzaner Stud Piber, the Spanish Riding School Vienna and the Slovenian Stud Lipica. All three established institutions are united by the rich history of the Lipizzaner breed of white horses, which began in Lipica in 1580 and then continued its glorious journey in Vienna, from where the Lipizzaner became famous all over the world. Close cooperation and constant strengthening of contacts led to an important milestone in 2022 – a joint entry on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. “Joined forces will ensure that this noble breed of horse will continue to be preserved and that the rich history of the Lipizzaner will continue to inspire future generations,” emphasizes Movia.

A modern upgrade

The Piber stud’s sustainable orientation is reflected in the connection of rich history with modern technological solutions, which is also evident in the upgrading of their transport capacities. Due to the long-term and successful cooperation with Landtechnik West, which is a dealer of the Farmtech brand, the decision to purchase a new trailer seemed completely natural. “We have an excellent relationship with the Landtechnik West team, fair cooperation and we trust their offer,” says Movia. From the portfolio of Farmtech transport solutions, the best choice seemed to be the 16-ton dump tipper Durus 1600, which with its box, high capacity, robustness and, of course, universality represents an optimal solution “The trailer will be used practically every day, as it will be indispensable for carrying out all transport work on the property,” adds Movia.

Circular economy in practice

Every week, the Piber stud produces around 150 cubic meters of horse manure – a waste product that is put to good use. The 300 horses that live at the stud provide valuable material for the production of high-quality compost. Horse manure is stored in properly arranged landfills and processed into compost, which is then spread on the 300 hectares of farmland twice a year. This allows them to maintain the fertility of the soil and strengthen sustainable farming, which is in line with the high standards of the Piber estate. From now on, the new Durus 1600 dump tipper will be indispensable on a daily basis. Its role will not be limited only to this transport of manure, but will also be useful during harvest, as it will enable the efficient transport of crops from the fields. In addition, it will also help with other tasks that require the transport of cargo around the property.

Looking into the future

The future of the Lipizzaner Stud Piber is clearly defined: optimization, efficiency and success at all levels. This is reflected in the planned purchase of a new spreader, which will modernize and simplify the spreading of compost over on the fields. For the supply of the spreader, a Farmtech spreader is also in the running, but the name of the final supplier remains a secret for now. The purchase of a spreader is just one in a series of investments and improvements that the stud is planning in the short term. However, at the Lipizzaner Stud Piber, they are aware that the heart of their future lies in the preservation and breeding of the Lipizzaner breed. Therefore, this rich heritage will be carefully nurtured by further investments into horse breeding.
